March 8th: I’m In Love With

My cookie scoop! Seriously, this thing is the bomb! I love cookies and recently love making mini muffins, pancakes etc so it’s all perfectly portioned for Ty. It makes everything very uniformed and it’s just plain fun to use. Highly recommend one!

Sorry I don’t have anything more exciting to post.

I’ve been suffering from horrible horrible hay fever ever since it got warmer this week. It’s seriously the worse thing ever! Burning itchy eyes, nose that doesn’t stop running, and sneezing every other second. I must get into the habit of wearing a mask.

In other good news is that Ty is all better. He still doesn’t have much of an appetite and has lost noticeable amount of weight, but at least he’s keeping everything down. Tomorrow I want to do something special for him so were taking him to an aquarium. Should be fun.

Have a great weekend everyone.

March 7th: Poor Sick Boy and Our Poor Carpets

Ty has some mysterious stomach bug. No fever, but can’t hold anything down. Luckily, it’s pretty mild. Last night was the worse until he emptied out his stomach and then it was dry heaving and lots and lots of laundry and 3 changes of bed sheets and pjs for all. Then today he has no appetite, but is super thirsty and wants to nurse around the clock. The little bit of food he does manage to eat comes up a couple hours later along with breast-milk.

Today I hate hate hate that we have carpet flooring and miss miss miss our old gorgeous wooden flooring. I hovered around Ty paranoid that any moment he’ll heave and we will be destined to have a stinky spot on our floor for how ever long we stay here. And then it happened, but thankfully more than half landed on our sofa which thankfully has washable covers. Sure we have a little spot on our floors, but it wasn’t too bad. But for your own sake, if you happen to visit me I wouldn’t recommend sitting on our floors, oh and I guess not on our sofas. Heck, I guess it’s best not to visit unless you’re alright with standing the whole time.

Like father like son though. Ty loves the carpet and today more so than ever he loved laying on it and then suddenly my hatred for our carpets lessens just a tad bit.

For any concerned, the photo was taken way before we had a little mishap.

March 6th: Photo Cheat

I didn’t manage to take a photo with either my Canon or iphone so I’m using a photo that I took yesterday.

It’s been over a month since I’ve used the Ergo. I used to have to make sure I always had it with me if we went outside since he sometimes needed to nurse and nap in it, but now he’s on a pretty good schedule of napping at home or in the stroller with the sitters.
Yesterday I pulled it out though. Ty has been understandably needy and after day care yesterday he wouldn’t let me put him down. I played by his side for a couple hours, but when it came time to make his dinner this was the only way to get the job done.
He was pretty amused and I got some weighted walking lunges and squats in as well which Ty got a crack out of.

In other news, I’m uber proud of myself for managing to run 4 days in a row! Sat – Tues! woohoo! I haven’t ran that many times in a row since pre-pregnancy. I’m hoping I can keep this running streak up for a while and throw in a couple toning/yoga sessions in there someday as well.

Oh, hey, it just occurred to me that today is Ty’s 20 month birthday! Gosh, I’m a terrible mom to just realize that now when the day is almost over! I’ll be sure to wish Ty a happy 20 month birthday tomorrow and I better start brain storming for his 2 year birthday party. OMG, it’s in 4 short months!!!!

March 5th: Gluten Free Banana Pancake Recipe

Ty has been on a total savory breakfast kick. He’ll eat rice with eggs, natto rice, rice with lentils and veggies and refuses to eat a semi sweet breakfast.

He used to be crazy about these banana pancakes I used to make for him, but since lately his enthusiasm for anything bread related has totally disappeared, I gave the pancakes a break for a couple weeks and brought them back today.

Don’t let the bottom photo fool you. He looks all happy with his pancake and took a bite but ended up spitting it out. I don’t know if its the rice flour I used or if he’s totally off on the banana. This used to be the only way he’d eat bananas. I ended up whipping him up some natto rice and he ate that! While its great that he likes natto, I do still wish he was more into breakfast food. It would make my job as his personal chef a lot easier. Now I have to make 3 savory meals a day and with his limited amount of foods he will eat its really hard!

His hair is awesome, I know!

Still I’m going to give you this recipe since I know there has to be other toddlers out there who are into breads and pancakes etc. Its super super easy and even on our busiest days I’ve been known to whip them up. Of course, I won’t be going out of my way for a couple more months now to make these, but hubby Motozo benefited from this and ate the entire batch today, so I’ll take that as a positive taste test!

I can’t take full credit for this recipe since I got the idea from a simple vegan recipe, but I added an egg and it pretty much makes this recipe full proof for any gluten free flours. Although, I can’t vouch on flours other than gluten free oat, buckwheat, and rice flour. I’ve tried all those 3 and oat flour is by far the best. I haven’t tasted any of them since they have an egg in them, but I can tell you that the oat flour fluffs up and has a soft texture, buckwheat makes for a rather heavy pancake, and rice is soft but thin. Ty definitely prefers the oat flour, but that may be due to him just being into banana pancakes back then. I even made oat flour pancakes for him recently and he still wouldn’t eat it so I cant say he didn’t like the two others based on the flour differences. Let me just remind you that he used to be crazy for this pancake and would happily eat it for breakfast and snacks! I guess he just got sick of them.

And on to the recipe.

Gluten Free Banana Pancakes

1 banana

1 egg

1/2 cup of gluten free flour or regular flour

1/2 tsp baking powder

In a food processor puree the banana smooth then process everything else until combined, adding more flour if the batter seems too watery.

Heat a skillet on low heat with some heat friendly oil.

Pour pancake batter 1 tbsp at a time making some cute mini pancakes.

Blah blah. I’m sure you all know how to make a pancake so I’m not going to type it all out.

This doesn’t make a large portion. It would be the perfect amount for a guy with a hungry morning appetite or be just right for 1 women and a toddler (depending on how much your toddler eats). Ty doesn’t eat much and when he ate these pancakes he had about 2 mini pancakes for breakfast and 2 for a snack. So one batch lasted about 2 days and thats it. But if you look at the ingredients, its not much so a women shouldn’t feel guilty for eating the whole batch for breakfast. It is, after all, the most important meal of the day, no?

Let me know if anyone tries it out 🙂

March 4th: Spring

Is in the air.

So just a update on how Ty did at daycare today. He seemed pretty interested to go in and play with all the new toys, but as soon as I said good bye he got really upset and cried. After I got out of the building I realized I had his coats with me so I went back up to the school and in that short time he stopped crying.

The workers said he got a little fussy around noon and didnt eat much lunch which is to be expected because he usually takes a nap aroud 11 or 11:30AM then has lunch after he wakes up so he was tired and didn’t have an appetite.

I only left him for 3 hours and I kept myself busy. Did an 8km run, showered quick then dashed out to do some grocery shopping and was able to pick Ty up just in time. He was pretty emotionally when I picked him up, but he was super happy to get into his stroller and again he was super happy when we got back home. I was really counting on him taking a nice long nap since these days he sleeps for 1hr – 2hrs now that he’s on a one-nap-a-day schedule, but he woke up after a short 40mins and the rest of the afternoon he was one cranky baby. He’s totally entering the terrible twos a little early I think. If he doesn’t get what he wants he throws a big fit, arches his back when I carry him and try to console him, and cries with all his might. He used to stop crying pretty fast and would get over his disappointments fast, but now….man, its super hard to remain composed and be patient. Breath breath!

He also likes to put on his own shoes and hates to have my help which of course erupts in a dramatic fit. Argh! I know he’s feeling stress from his morning so I’m really really trying to be patient with him.

I felt really guilty that he was indoors all morning when if he were with me he’d be able to go out to the park. When we visited the daycare they said they go outside if the weather permits, but today I was told they don’t go outside everyday 😦 HUMP! My boy NEEDs to go outside or he goes stir crazy. I’m really hoping he gets to go outside tomorrow.

March 3rd: Pirate Party

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend! I for one had a pretty rough one. Ty hasn’t been sleeping well and is on the boob the whole night long and then he wakes up super cranky and thus grating on my nerves. He also is not eating much (he goes through fazes of eating more or less) and although I’ve gotten better at relaxing and not making a big deal of it….well, today I found it exceptionally irritating when Ty would spit out his food constantly. No matter what I made for him he’d just take 2-3 bites and announce that he’s finished by spitting out his food. Oh, well….

Lets get to the more pleasant photos from our day. Starting with my simple breakfast before a short run. Thats sunflower butter on my apples. Love sunbutter and I order it all the time from iherbs incase one day Ty decides he likes it. Until then I’m happy to eat the entire thing. 🙂

A friend hosted a pirate themed birthday party for their 4yr old boy so we went to that in the afternoon. I was beyond impressed with the amazing pirate themed spread the birthday boy’s mom put together.

Pirate Pancakes

Pirate cupcakes

Ty made up for his lack of eating by devouring about 3 of those popcorn cups. Total popcorn monster!

I don’t know how the host manages to make such an amazing spread! She’s a full time mom and has 2 kids. One is the same age is Ty! Puts me to shame!

We went for a practical costume. Pirate pj! Didn’t see the point in getting a full on costume that he’ll most likely outgrow in a couple months. The PJ was a huge hit for Ty. I’ve never seen him get so excited over clothes before. He kept patting his pirate on his shirt hehe.

Stealing the birthday boy’s balloon.

David got into the spirit of the party ha.

This blog is already giving me a headache! For some reason he has deleted my text 3xs! And thats with also saving my draft! Tomorrow Im back to one photo a day.

Speaking of tomorrow, tomorrow is Ty’s first day at daycare. He’ll go for 4 hours, have lunch and possibly a short nap. Wish us luck for minimal amount of tears.

March 2nd: Creative Play

We all know this daily photo challenge was going to be Ty heavy right? I wish I could take photos of other things, but since he’s around me all the time (surprise!) he becomes the easiest subject. One of these days I’ll photograph something else. I also know this was suppose to be a 1 photo a day challenge, but I can’t help but post more than 1 :).

Kitchen utensils, a bowl, fluffy balls, and a snack kept Ty nice and busy this morning.

I’m happy to say I managed to get a run in this morning! It was a windy day, but I managed roughly 9km. It might have been more like 8km as I only ran for 42mins, but it still was wonderful! If I manage to exercise regularly again I’ll update my workouts whenever I do them.

Tomorrow were going to a pirate themed kid birthday party so I’m hoping for some cute pirate photos of the little man. I can’t wait to show you his costume haha!

Officially March 1st Photo

So it’s officially March 1st and man did it feel like spring today! It was cloudy and windy, but pretty warm. I cycled everywhere today (got myself an electric bike that has a kid seat in the back) and didn’t feel guilty about Ty possibly freezing. It was lovely!

Sorry for the rather boring photos for today. Even though I had a pretty social and busy day with a friends baby shower in the morning and visiting a friend and her baby in the afternoon…well, I’m trying to respect others privacy so no posting photos of others unless I have their permission.

Ty was ultra ultra whiny and moody today but this is the 2nd time now that he went down for a nap with the babysitter! Being that Ty is going to start daycare part time from next week it’s good to know that he’s able to fall asleep without me. Of course, it’s going to be a transition for him and I’m expecting tears from both of us, but I’m actually really looking forward to a couple of my mornings being freed up so I can run or do yoga. I miss feeling fit and am rather ashamed of my body at the moment, so from next week I’m on a mission to get back into shape!

Have a lovely weekend everyone and I’ll see you tomorrow with hopefully a more exciting photo/photos.

Photo A Day Challenge: March 1st, 2013

Hello blog, Please forgive my absence. My excuse, as always, is that life got in the way. Well, for the month of March I’ve put a challenge on myself. A photo a day challenge. This is not only an attempt to get me back into blogging but also to get me back into using my big Canon camera. These days the iphone is so handy and convenient that the Canon has been totally ignored for over a month! Poor thing! The challenge for this month would be to post photos with the good camera but if time/life gets in the way then iphone camera will have to do. I need the rules to be loose for this to work. The good thing about  just having to post a photo is that its more time efficient. So if I don’t have the time to type up a post I’ll feel perfectly fine with just a photo. Already, this challenge almost failed as I was rushing around like a mad women the first thing in the morning till finally I remembered the challenge at 2PM. Whew! Now where’s that camera….. Starting off this month with Ty! Well of course! Image Avocado pasta for the win! In the avocado sauce I pureed steamed broccoli and carrots and sauteed mushrooms. He had no idea and gobbled it up. Almost ate the entire serving you see here! My big boy is all about cutlery and is quite a pro with both spoon and fork. 🙂 Here’s to a fabulous month!

Thought today was March 1st. Turns out its Feb 28th. Oops. A day early. Oh, well, no harm done.

This and That of Ty

Just a couple cute pictures of Ty doing what he does lately.

Give me the camera! His hair is getting more and more out of control!

This boy LOVES his books. He has learned that books = attention from mom and dad so he constantly asks us to read him books. His favorites are “The Hungry Caterpillar” an “ABC” book, and a couple other that are interactive that he can pull and flip to discover different things. When I find him flipping pages on his own its just too precious! I hope his love of books continue. Recently, he likes getting into “adult” books and flips through the boring pictureless pages and then brings them over to me to read to him. Of course, he loses interest in those books fast. I need to invest in more kiddy books for him.

The photo is crummy and you’ll have to ignore the mess in our door way. He went into a shoe closet the other day and found one of my highest heels and promptly attempted to put them on. He loves shoes since he knows it means going outside. When he gets bored and wants to go outside he brings me his shoes and gets really excited if I bring out his stroller.

He’s all into doing things he’s seen us do to ourselves or to him. He takes his nose nozzle and puts it in his nose even though he absolutely hates it if I do it to him.
He also likes to try put the thermometer in his armpit which ends up being just down his shirt.

Poor boy has a fever and his first pink eye. Man pink eye is nasty! He’ll have to stay away from other kids this week, the poor boy!
